CQOD Special Offering, A Lenten Covenant

Special Offering

A Lenten Covenant

He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.—Micah 6:8 (NIV)

Lent is a time in the liturgical calendar for repentance, fasting and prayer that begins with Ash Wednesday (March 9, this year) and ends 40 days later with Holy Week. While there are many traditions and practices that Christians have followed throughout history, it is always appropriate to add any devotions that tend to amplify or strengthen consciousness of God’s presence.
This year, CQOD is committed to support three Lenten initiatives: prayer, Bible study, and worship.

  • Prayer: In particular, we desire to pray for missionaries, especially in these tumultuous times. You may sign up to receive a weekly prayer request letter. You may also join a group that prays together on Tuesday evenings via Skype. If you are a missionary, write to me to have your prayer requests placed on our mailing list.
Get further details at Prayer for Missionaries.

  • Bible study: Let me introduce you to a mode of Bible study that has deeply enriched me: weekly telephone Bible study. I have been engaged in telephone Bible study for several years with some individuals, both locally and far away. It takes commitment, but the rewards are great, as we struggle with Scripture together.
Get further details at Telephone Bible Study.

  • Worship: The Psalms have been an important part of worship and devotion throughout Christian history. You may amplify your worship and understanding of the Psalms by learning a way to sing psalms in your personal devotions.
Instruction and examples are at Simple Songs for Psalms, along with a syllabus of penitential psalms for Lent.
I invite you to join me in making a Lenten Covenant to seek God through prayer, Bible study, and worship this year.
